Unity of Sacramento

Senior Associate Minister of Congregational Care

Rev. Carolyn loves people. This love has taken her down interesting and exciting personal and professional paths. In 2022, she came to Sacramento from Redding, where she served as the senior minister at Unity Church in Redding for seven years. She was selected as senior associate minister of congregational care at Unity of Sacramento in February 2024 and was installed on May 12, 2024.

Currently, Rev. Carolyn sits on the West Central Region Board of Unity Worldwide Ministries, and she writes for Unity Worldwide Ministries and Unity Urban Ministerial School. She coordinates with the Unity Urban Ministerial School to bring spiritual enrichment classes to Unity of Sacramento. The classes are part of the necessary work for students desiring to enter the licensed Unity teacher and ministerial paths.

As a writer, in 1991 Rev. Carolyn had a book published titled Underachievement: Reversing the Process. The book was geared to parents who had children not achieving in school. Recognizing that there is always an underlying cause to underachievement, the book assisted parents in knowing the steps to take in discovering the cause and how to help their child. From 1987 to 2010, she wrote over 100 parenting articles for an online parenting journal The Informed Parent and the parenting newspaper North State Parent. Currently, her writing focuses on spirituality.

Prior to entering the ministry, Rev. Carolyn had experience in working with people in a variety of professions. As a young woman, she taught special education. When her daughters were babies and toddlers, she taught at Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach. For 18 years, she practiced as a family counselor. After moving to Northern California in 1994, she served as a behavior specialist for individuals, families, and schools.

One of Rev. Carolyn’s most challenging and exciting endeavors was starting a school in Uganda where her older daughter lived. After meeting a young woman who had a dream of starting a school in her village, Rev. Carolyn stepped out of her comfort zone and said that she would help her fulfill her vision. In 2003, God Is Good Preparatory School started as a preschool in a thatched room. It was the only school in the village. By 2013, the school had grown to 200 students, grades preschool through primary 7. The campus included four permanent buildings, two water cisterns, and electricity. The first two classes of students had graduated, most of whom passed the national exams to enter secondary school.

Rev. Carolyn knows how to create an environment of caring, acceptance, and joy. She loves the ministry and will serve you with commitment and compassion. She and her husband live in Sacramento near one daughter and her family. Their other daughter lives in Cambodia with her family. Rev. Carolyn has six fantastic grandchildren! Her hobbies include writing, reading, gardening, playing the piano, traveling, and spending time with friends.
